RETRACTABLE RE-USABLE SAFETY BAGS - BLOCKS

While traditional airbags are designed to inflate with gas during a collision, future and experimental safety systems explore using gel or foam to cushion occupants by injecting it into the cabin. However, practical applications have been limited due to challenges like preventing foam from entering the eyes and nose, which was seen in the movie Demolition Man. In the automotive industry, some suspension enhancement systems like SumoSprings and Timbren SES use durable foam as a "set it and forget it" alternative to air bags for load leveling and reducing sway, not for crash safety. 

For Crash Safety (Future Concepts)

Injectable Foam/Gel: 

The concept is to deploy a gel or foam into the vehicle's interior to provide a soft cushion to absorb impact. 

Challenges: 

A significant hurdle is the safe and effective deployment of foam to avoid harmful entry into occupants' orifices, which has been a safety concern. 

For Suspension Enhancement (Existing Aftermarket Systems)

Closed-Cell Foam: 

Products like SumoSprings use a type of durable, closed-cell foam that provides suspension support. 

Airless Design: 

This foam-based system works without the need for air compressors, making it a simpler and more reliable alternative to traditional air suspension systems for tasks like load leveling. 

Benefits: 

These foam-based helper springs offer increased stability, reduced sway, and better load distribution without the maintenance of air springs. 

Examples: 

SumoSprings and Timbren SES are examples of such products, which are often used in trucks, vans, and RVs to enhance their existing suspension.
